There's an excellent post on the official Allods forums giving some tips on surviving in a pvp environment. Here are my additions:

  1. Be aware. In most mmorpgs, basic player awareness will keep you alive a lot longer. This means panning your camera around every once in awhile to know your surroundings. Better awareness is usually something good pvpers have, and will also aid in pve. In AT, make sure you keep an eye on unflagged players of the opposite faction, who knows when they will change their mind and pop a war banner? Use line of sight, and even mobs, to your advantage.
  2. Memorize safe routes and safe places (since we have no minimap), grinding isn't as bad as it seems, albeit boring. OP has already covered this so I'll leave it as is.
  3. Think out of the box when using some of your skills. Remember this is pvp, not pve. Players aren't just going to stand there and let you wail on them - learn to properly fight back. This doesn't mean panicking and hitting all your buttons at once. You can practice mobility and flexibility on normal mobs, or even CC + escape strategies. Not everyone is (or can instantly be) a pvp pro, you'll win some you'll lose some. Accept that, learn and move forward.
  4. Stay calm and have fun. It's just a game, if it's making you really frustrated, just take a break before coming back. Sometimes annoyance will cloud your judgement and you are more prone to making errors, thus dying more often. Be patient, try to turn it into a learning experience.
  5. Be alert, warn others, and heed warnings. I believe the pvp announcements are only displayed by users under the effects of war banners, so pay attention to who is killing who and where their location might be. Zone chat provides useful information - make sure you avoid areas where banner'd people were last spotted. If you get ganked, take the time to warn others who are also trying to hide/survive like you - it's much appreciated. When you die, don't release immediately - watch where your opponent(s) is going. Is s/he hovering around the area? Or going off in a certain direction? Stay clear of that area when you res.
  6. Let things go. If you keep dying over and over trying to finish one quest, perhaps its time for you to move on to another quest, preferably in a different location. If you can't find a group of people to help you, just remember you can come back to it any time. The long chains, aka world mystery chains, won't force you to pvp (actually unclear on this, someone correct me?), so they shouldn't be an issue. You don't NEED to finish this quest or level today, take your time..!

In the end, just remember AT tapers off around 27, and the following zones have much less pvp encounters, especially of the level-?? kind.

I will probably add more specific pointers, such as which quests aren't worth the time / where good grind areas are / easy escape routes / etc, later. ;)
